Tempur-pedic Deluxe Bed
Hello Everyone,
A customer dealing with back pain every night while sleeping visited one of our store locations. He had been in a serious car accident and his Dr. recommended he try a Tempur-pedic mattress for relief. He was encouraged to take his time and lay on the mattress for 10 to 20 minutes to see if he had any pressure on his back. He purchased the Tempur-pedic Deluxe mattress and came back 3 days later saying his pain seemed worse. He had been sleeping on a very old mattress with poor support. He was encouraged to give the mattress a little more time so that his body had time to adjust to a mattress that was now supporting his body correctly. He was asked to call us back in a week. After 10 days his body did adjust and he said he loved his new Tempur-pedic Deluxe Bed.

Stearns & Foster Tropical Oasis Ariel Sands
Hello Everyone,
We had a call today about the Stearns & Foster Tropical Oasis Ariel Sands. The caller was told that the Latex in this model was Talalay Natural latex and wanted to know if that was correct. It is not. Sealy Posturepedic SpringFree mattress sets and Stearns & Foster Tropical Oasis mattress sets are made with synthetic latex. The synthetic latex feels wonderful and is long lasting. A 20 year warranty.

The only negative seems to be the price but most of the foam mattress sets price in this range. There are those who would argue that the NxG is not all foam and that is true. We had a caller inquire about this Simmons Natural Care bed. She wanted to know why this particular model priced higher than some of the others. The big difference is the amount of Natural Talalay Latex in this bed. Some of the others have the Dunlop Latex which is still excellent product but the process for Talalay is more high tech and therefore costs more. Talalay Latex if softer in feel than the Dunlop.

Don't Feel Pressure in Buying a Mattress!

Whether you are buying online or through a store you should have an experience that is informative and helpful in selecting the mattress best for you.
We have many people buying online because of their experiences in their local mattress stores. What we hear over and over again is "I feel like I'm working with a car salesman and they are so pushy." And by the way We have worked with some wonderful car salesmen and have also had the same negative experience of these callers. We hate to hear these comments because it should not be that way.
Your sales person should be concerned about the position you sleep in, whether you sleep with a partner and are there any health concerns involving pain from pressure.
It is a good idea to take your shoes off, lay on the mattress in the position you sleep in and give yourself time to experience the mattress. Talalay Latex and Dunlop Latex are both natural latex products. The main difference between the two products is the way they are processed. The process for the Talalay is more involved and more costly. The end result is that the Talalay is more consistent in the cell structure from the top of the piece to the bottom making it feel much softer. The processing for the Dunlop is different because in the processing natural sediments settle to the bottom giving the bottom of the Dunlop Latex a firmer feel. Both Latex products are good. If you take a look at our Simmons Beautyrest Natural Care Latex beds and look at the individual specifications you will see both Dunlop Latex and Talalay Latex used in their mattresses.

What is a Comfort Exchange?

Many stores offer a comfort exchange and they are a bit different from store to store. A comfort exchange is usually offered with a set at a certain price point and that varies from store to store. An exchange is an opportunity to exchange your mattress one time only within a period of time specified by the store. Exchanges usually involve a comfort exchange fee and re-delivery charge. Most require that you exchange for a mattress of equal or greater value. If you select something less expensive there are no refunds. Most of the time when a comfort exchange occurs it is someone who has purchased a bed that is just to firm and they need something softer.
It is always a good idea to ask when purchasing if they have a comfort exchange available to you. You should know within 14 days if your mattress is right for you.
This time frame allows a break in period for your mattress and also allows your body enough time to adjust if you were sleeping on a poorly supported mattress for a very long time. It is very important to give the mattress & your body at least 14 days to adjust. 99% of the time customers love their new bed after the adjustment time.

Wrong name on My Mattress!

This does not happen often but occasionally the manufacturer will sew the wrong name on a mattress. We discussed in our Blog previously that manufacturers have several different names for the exact same bed. With all these names occasionally they can mistakenly place the wrong name tag on the mattress for that store. This doesn't mean that you received the wrong bed.
For example the Simmons Beautyrest Atkins, is the exact same bed as the Simmons Beautyrest Ballmer, Simmons Beautyrest Calandra, Simmons Beautyrest Lusaka, Simmons Beautyrest Shawnee, Simmons Beautyrest Dade River, Simmons Beautyrest White Bay, Simmons Beautyrest Evonne, Simmons Beautyrest Angelique, and Simmons Beautyrest Stavros. The Sealy Posturepedic Adams Farm is the same as the Sealy Posturepedic Wysteria Lane, Sealy Posturepedic Hope Mills, Sealy Posturepedic Coastal Meadows, Sealy Posturepedic Harbor House, Sealy Posturepedic Courtland Square and Sealy Posturepedic Verdi Square.
Because there are so many names for each bed from the manufacturer you can see how this could happen. Simmons NxG vs Tempur-pedic
Hello Everyone,
We have had several questions about the Simmons NxG vs Tempurpedic. With many callers there was confusion about the differences in these mattresses. The first major difference is that Tempur-pedic is an all foam mattress. Tempur-pedic is great product but quite different from Simmons NxG or as they call it their next generation foam.
The Simmons NxG is not an all foam mattress. The unique quality in the Simmons NxG mattress is that is has the Simmons individually pocketed coil system with the NxG on the top for comfort. The NxG mattresses really do feel great! We think the main difference in feel between the two is that with the Tempur-pedic you get that quicksand or sinking in feeling. Not a bad thing, but some people don't like that. What the Tempur-pedic is doing is reacting to the heat of the body and conforming as it reacts.

Loose Threads on my new mattress!

Another bit of information to share with you. If you receive a new mattress from Sealy, Stearns & Foster, Serta, or Simmons and it has a few loose threads just clip them off and don't worry. Your mattress is not defective! In the manufacturing process this sometimes happens. If you have an open area that was missed in the manufacturing process then call the store where you ordered your mattress and they will take care of it for you.
An open seam is much different than a loose thread.

Body Impressions
Hello Everyone,
We receive calls so often from people who have purchased their mattress from a store in their local area and are so concerned about body impressions. Most of the time they are very frustrated and are just looking for advice or help. We thought we should share with you some of the information we have. When you sleep at night your mattress will begin to conform to your body. It is a good idea to rotate your mattress. Manufacturers consider impressions up to 1 1/2" as the normal process of body conforming. They do not cover a body impression under their warranty until it reaches 1 1/2" and it is then considered a sag. Be sure to read your warranty card. Sealy Posturepedic, Simmons, Stearns & Foster and Englander are all the same with the 1 1/2" standard.
We actually received a call from a woman who saw that her bed was contouring to her body and was very upset. She was afraid if it did this in the first few months it must be defective. We asked her how she was sleeping at night and she said she was having the best sleep she had had in years! She just needed to know that the bed was not defective.
There are times when the body sag can be caused by improper support. We advise customers not to use an old box spring with a new mattress. Metal is what fatigues over time so you want your new mattress to be supported by the new box spring that comes with it. If you think your box spring could possibly be the problem place your mattress on the floor and see if the sag is as visible. If the solid floor lessens the sag your box spring may need replaced.

There is a definite difference in feel. We would suggest you try the Duval Street or the Franklin Park. Of the two the Franklin Park is softest with a layer of Latex. Most models that have a layer of Latex in them will feel a little softer and we believe you would benefit from the softer Latex. If you bought a Sealy ask for Sealy queen split box springs. Split boxsprings are two individual boxsprings that equal the size of the standard queen box spring. A queen boxspring is 60 x 80 and the two split boxsprings are 30 x 80. You should have no problem getting these into your master bedroom and they will be just as supportive as the regular size.

According to a study in the journal Science lack of sleep may be a cause of Alzheimer's disease. There was a study done by researchers at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St.Louis where they studied amyloid beta levels in mice genetically engineered to have a disease similar to Alzheimer's. The amyloid beta protein creates plaques in the brain. The researchers found that the amyloid beta levels increased when the mice were awake and decreased when they were asleep. A good nights sleep is so important to our health.

Natural Latex or Synthetic

We think the Natural and the Synthetic Latex are both good products. You are obviously not allergic to the Natural Latex so our suggestion would be to stay with what you know works for you.
